Windows Remote Desktop Black Screen

I’ve come across this issue several times, the symptom is when you log in using remote desktop, the screen shows nothing but a black canvas. You can still move your mouse, meaning it’s not “dead”, but there’s nothing you can do to bring back the desktop. Really annoying!

What I used to do is change the screen resolution in the remote desktop settings. This should fix the issue but you have to log out and change back the resolution and log in again.

Today I finally found a much easier solution: simply press CTRL+ALT+END on your black remote desktop screen, then choose “Task Manager”. It will magically bring back the desktop! So much easier!
